 NOT a desk, but great to hold your laptopFeb 07, 2010
Don't buy this if you are thinking "desk". It's not a desk, despite the name. In fact, the instructions tell you not to put any additional weight on the product (other than your laptop). So, if you are buying this to hold your laptop to watch a movie while you work out or gently tap the keyboard as you work, no problem--it does a great job of that for an inexpensive price. They have done a very good job of designing the product to securely hold your laptop, but you can't "lean" at all on the product or put any additional weight on the product. I give the product four stars for being a very inexpensive way to securely hold a laptop on your treadmill--it's worth the money just for that purpose.
Since I was actually trying to get work done, and not watch a movie, I didn't find the product very useful for that purpose. I ended up buying a Trek Desk (which I love) after this product didn't meet my needs.
 fits SOLE elliptical tilted consoleFeb 05, 2010
I have a SOLE brand elliptical that has a fan and speakers in the console. My elliptical has a tilted console with a 'step' in it, and I was very concerned about spending the money then having to deal with sending it back.
I am keeping this great invention. The fan is totally blocked, so I would not want to operate the fan while the SurfShelf is installed. The side speakers are only blocked slightly, so I can use them without any problem. My elliptical also has those 'moving arms' and there is no problem with the shelf.
Just to make sure the angle of the SurfShelf was still supportive for my laptop, we left several thick, heavy books on top of the shelf overnight. These books easily weighed twice my laptop. There were no problems with the SurfShelf the next morning, and I started using my laptop on it right away. My laptop is in the size of the 13"-14" range.
nice for recumbent bikeJan 26, 2010
I bought this to use with a new recumbent bike (schwinn 240) and my macbook. As noted in other reviews, it does cover the bike display, but I set all the settings at the beginning, than don't look at them again. This has been an excellent tool. I'm able to type, browse the web, respond to email, etc., so I'm using the bike much more than I would have otherwise. I have recommended it to a few of my friends with home equipment.
The shelf on which the laptop sits juts out quite a bit longer than my laptop needs, and almost too far for me to sit comfortably in my best position. I am short (5'2") and have to be closer to the display than some others may be. That's why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5. If the laptop shelf had an adjustable length, that would make it the perfect device for me (but might make it less stable for other uses).

well it seems to work (after the initial install), upon hearing from maker ,i understand why they manufacture in china ,still we need to stick together an on-shore everything we can . i have been using the very functional product more and more .

I have used this on my Sole F80 Treadmill and it works great. I have not used it when running, but have used it walking and it makes the time pass by quickly. The set up was easy and it is securely fastened to my treadmill. It is a good product. I was going to buy a new TV to use with my treadmill, but I saved money by using this product and my laptop instead.
